FAQS
I’m new to Pilates, where should I begin?
Roc offers a variety of ways to start. We have Beginner classes on the Reformer and the Mat where you can to learn the foundational basics.
Private lessons are another great introduction to our studio. Having that one on one attention will give you insight into your body and give you a taste of being on the Cadillac, Reformer, Mat and Chairs. They’re a great way to prep for classes but also the best way to accelerate your progress since the focus will be only on you.
The Introductory Pack is perfect for new clients. You will book two private lessons and finish with a group class. You will learn about the equipment, the name of exercises and the foundational movements. This is great if you want to prepare for group classes or if you’re experiencing some issues with your body and need individualized attention.
Whichever choice you make, you will begin moving right away!
What do we do in Private Lessons?
Private lessons are ideal for a true beginner so you can learn some foundational basics. Over time you will become familiar with all the apparatus and feel more independent.
Private lessons are also designed for any conditions or issues. You can move slower and focus on restorative movement. If you have any pain, privates lessons are a must.
Private lessons are incredible for getting super physically fit. The lessons will push you to your maximum and challenge you as you advance in your Pilates practice. This is Old School Classical Pilates, our springs are heavy and we work on everything !
What is best if I have pain or injuries?
When it comes to pain, medical conditions, injuries or physical limitations private lessons are highly recommended. Pain can be a short term acute issue or a long term chronic issue. Depending upon which will affect our approach to your body.
Pilates is not a replacement or a substitution for physical therapy. It is a great to follow up after PT or do Pilates if recommended by your doctor.
We can alleviate many painful or chronic issues but consistency is the key to change. Being consistent is the only way.
Should I have Grippy socks or Sticky Socks?
We do not recommend sticky socks for Classical Pilates. We want you to connect with your feet and know what your feet are doing/learn how to use them. Sticky socks are also hard on our apparatus.
Tell me more about Pilates!
Pilates is so much more than the Reformer. Look around our studio and you will see it’s full of amazing apparatus. When we use all of the apparatus we really get an incredible workout and use the apparatus properly.
Most Reformer only Club/TikTok Pilates do not teach authentic Pilates. They are using the Reformer incorrectly. The only one that this affects is you! You will not build a balanced and super strong body using the Reformer improperly. We know because Joseph Pilates filmed and photographed an immense amount of documentary material for us to study and learn from. He even wrote books! Return to Life Through Contrology is his most famous (he called his Method Contrology).
